Ping Pong Fu

This is my submission to the Dream sequence challenge. The challenge was about making a 4 second animation that matches 120 beats per minute. I remembered an old Ad that featured Bruce Lee playing Ping Pong with a nun-chuck (which was fake of course :) ). I though this was a good idea to match ping pong plays with the beats.

I modelled Bruce Lee in a stylized art style which I wanted to try for some time and modified the character to be his opponent. I used Accurig for rigging both characters and added some IK bones to make animations easier. Texturing and baking done in Substance 3D painter and Marmoset.

I downloaded several characters and cheer animations from Mixamo for the crowd. I wish I had time to bake their animations to VAT animations, but I didn't have enough time, so the render was quite slow.

I also rigged the nun-chuck and added an IK bone to make animating the follow through easier, since I hand animated all the animations. I thought about using physics constrains to animate the nun-chuck follow through, but the result were not good enough, so I hand animated everything

I could have made the animations more smoother and better adjusted the ball path, but it was a busy month so I had to settle with this result. I am still proud of what I made and I hope you enjoy it
